Description
Merata Mita (1942–2010) was the first Māori woman to write and direct a narrative feature film. In 2016, Sundance Institute created the Merata Mita Fellowship in her honor to support Indigenous women-identified artists. Pictured: Mita working on a flatbed editing machine.
