The group staging the occupation lands at Kahoʻolawe’s Kūheʻeia Bay in a move to direct national attention to the historic injustices and generational trauma of Kānaka ʻŌiwi since the illegal overthrow of the constitutional Hawaiian monarchy by the US in 1893.
